Classic mashed potatoes can be easily modified with a few selected ingredients. This recipe creates a tasty dish in its own right and not a common side dish.

  • 1 kg potatoes
  • 3-5 slices bacon
  • 120 ml milk
  • 60-70 g cheese
  • 120 ml sour cream
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • Chives to taste


  • Peel the potatoes and cut them into small pieces.
  • Put them in a pot and boil for about 15-20 minutes.
  • In the meantime, cut the bacon into small pieces.
  • Fry for a few minutes in a dry pan.
  • Grate cheese on a fine grater.
  • Drain cooking water from pot with potatoes and reheat on medium heat.
  • Pour in milk, mash potatoes and remove from heat after about 2 minutes.
  • Add cheese to mashed potatoes and stir until completely melted.
  • Add sour cream and bacon as well.
  • Season with salt and pepper and stir again.
  • Chop chives and sprinkle over mashed potatoes before serving.
