The Christmas cookies taste incredibly spicy and aromatic with ginger, cloves, pepper, honey and cocoa. The icing has a wonderful rum aroma with cinnamon.

  • 85 g butter soft
  • 90 g brown sugar
  • 100 g honey liquid
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 235 g flour + for sprinkling
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder
  • ¹⁄₂ tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp ginger ground
  • ¹⁄₂ tsp cinnamon ground
  • ¹⁄₄ tsp pepper
  • 1 pinch cloves ground
  • 1 pinch salt


  • 80 g powdered sugar
  • 1 pinch cinnamon
  • 15 g butter
  • 1 tablespoon dark rum
  • 1 tsp. water



  • Mix soft butter, sugar and honey in a bowl.
  • Add the egg yolk and stir again.
  • Mix together flour, cocoa, baking powder, spices and salt.
  • Stir the flour mixture into the butter mixture.
  • Knead the dough into a ball on a floured work surface.
  • Place the dough ball, wrapped in plastic wrap, in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
  • Line two baking sheets with baking paper.
  • Preheat the oven to 190 ° C.
  • Flour the work surface.
  • Roll out the dough on the work surface to about 5mm thick.
  • Cut out with any cookie cutters.
  • Place the cookies on the baking sheets.
  • Bake the Christmas cookies for about 7-10 minutes.
  • Allow the cookies to cool.


  • Sift powdered sugar and cinnamon together in a bowl.
  • Stir in melted butter, rum and warm water.
  • Whisk until smooth.
  • Spread the frosting on the Christmas cookies and let it set.


The frosting can also be mixed with lemon juice instead of rum.
