Vanilla crescent cookies with almonds

These traditional crescent-shaped Christmas cookies are indispensable during Advent. These easy to prepare vanilla crescents taste delicious with the vanilla powdered sugar.

Ingredients
  

Dough

  • 250 g flour
  • 100 g almonds ground
  • 80 g powdered sugar
  • 1 vanilla pod
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 180 g butter cold

Topping

  • 2 package Vanilla sugar
  • 40 g powdered sugar

Instructions
 

  • Mix flour with almonds, powdered sugar and salt in a bowl.
  • Cut vanilla bean lengthwise and scrape out the pulp.
  • Mix butter in pieces with salt and vanilla pulp together.
  • Add the almond and flour mixture and knead into a smooth dough.
  • Wrap the dough in foil and chill for min. 30 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 180 degrees.
  • Divide dough into 3-4 parts and portionwise shape the chilled dough into small croissants.
  • Roll the dough into a roll and cut it into even pieces.
  • Then shape them into croissants.
  • Place the croissants on the baking tray and bake for about 8-10 minutes.
  • Mix the powdered sugar with the vanilla sugar in a small bowl.
  • After baking, roll the vanilla crescents in the powdered sugar and let them cool on a wire rack.

Notes

For a nutty note, pistachios can be added to the dough (50 g almonds and 50 g pistachios).
The vanilla crescents can be coated with white icing instead of the classic powdered sugar topping.
The vanilla crescents keep well in a metal tin!
